The Hacker Within is a scientific software development self-teaching organization founded at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At PHYSOR 2012 the group offers condensed version of its previous scientific computing bootcamps, including one at the most recent American Nuclear Society winter meeting. This mini-course will be in a special demonstration format and will motivate the use of tools and skills appropriate for nuclear engineers. It will touch on topics such as developing, organizing, four hour session which mixes lectures with exercises on the following topics:

  1. The Shell
  2. Version Control: What, How, and Why
  3. Basic Python
  4. PyNE: Python for Nuclear Engineering
